Riyadh Mavericks won by 3 wicketsAS Academy has arranged a best of 3 series with Riyadh Mavericks and this series is under 16 years’ old boys. The aim of the series is to give exposure to the youth to play more matches and learn the game for which their parents and they have the passion for. Both academies are trying to promote the game and working hard for the youth development which is lacking in Saudi Arabia as there are not that many competitions. The format of the series is to have the 3 T20I which is as per the ICC rules so that the youth can learn the rules and be ready for tomorrow when they go on to play different formats of the game in the future. Team Photos   In the opening match, Riyadh Mavericks won the toss and elected to bowl first. AS Academy openers were Muneeb and Fahad Zafar and both started off well but Fahad was out by a very good running catch by Sashwath the captain. Hassaan Shakil was the next man in and he and Muneeb tried to build the innings but later Muneeb was out too which got Saad Shakir on the crease. Running between the wicket between Saad and Hassaan was good and they both were looking good but after then water break at 11 overs, Saad was caught and bowled. Fahad Munir who is leading the side in this opening match played well with Hassan but after Hassaan got out there was no one who support Fahad so he single handedly pushed the score and got his 56 off 30 balls and AS Academy were only able to put up 176 for the loss of 7 wickets. In bowling of Riyadh Mavericks, Rehan, Abdul Hai, Azain took 1 wicket each but the star for Mavericks was Saaduddin who took 3 wickets.   In reply, Riyadh Mavericks started off well but with a mix-up Abdul hai was roun-out by Fahad Zafar but Rehan was in good form and went to to score a 51 of 25 balls and he was well supported by Saaduddin 30 of 23 balls. At one point the game was shifted to AS Academy but Mazin contribution of 16 runs towards the end helped them to cross the final score although Saad Shakir bowled well to take 3 wickets with Fahad Zafar and Fahad Munir taking 1 wicket each. Man of the match was awarded to Mohd Saaduddin Ikram for the 30 runs and wickets. This was the 2nd game for AS Academy and for some of the players it was their first in the big ground and team is expected to fight back in the next game that will be played on 8th Jan 2022. Parents from Riyadh Mavericks were present to witness the efforts put in by their boys and looking forward to some exciting cricket matches in the series. AS Academy need to win the next game to keep the game alive. |
